What is Advent of Chess?

Advent of Chess is an annual (this is the fifth!) chess problem competition by Offerspill, Magnus Carlsen's chess club, featuring a wide variety of chess problem categories, such as helpmates, selfmates, proof games, and other unorthodox chess problems that rely more on logic and general problem solving than pure chess skill. If you're new to these types of problems, we have a categories page explaining the rules of each of them, and you can warm up by solving problems for previous years in our Archive.

This year also introduces some completely new categories, which won't appear on the categories page until the day they go live!

How does it work?> > > > Starting December 1st (tomorrow!), a new problem is released every day, at midnight (CET time), until December 24th. Create a free account here to start solving!

• For every problem you solve correctly on the same day it is published, you earn one ticket in the drawing for a chessboard signed by Magnus Carlsen.
• It's not only about the main prize: There are achievements and a Leaderboard where you can see how you compare to other solvers, and you can also create and join Clubs with private leaderboards for friendly competition. Create a club here (requires login).
